POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Position Title:  Building Level Paraprofessional 

  • School/Department:  Designated School

  • Supervisor: Building Administrator and Lead Teacher

  • Terms of Employment: 182 days

Primary Function:

To support the needs of diverse learners by working under the supervision of a certified teacher or administrator to provide individualized or small-group assistance to students, particularly those with special needs, language learners, or those receiving reading and academic interventions.

Essential Duties:

  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Follow school safety and security protocols.

  • Fulfill mandated reporting responsibilities.

  • Maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, CPI, and all other required training programs.

  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student records and personal information.

  • Assist teachers in addressing students' instructional, behavioral, educational, and social-emotional needs.

  • Provide individualized and/or small group instruction based on teacher-developed lesson plans.

  • Assist in collecting and recording instructional and behavioral data.

  • Provide accommodations or modifications as outlined in the student’s IEP or ILP.

  • Modify classroom activities, assignments, or materials to support student understanding and align with classroom objectives.

  • Administer tests, homework, and make-up assignments to support classroom instruction.

  • Implement behavior intervention plans as directed.

  • Supervise individual students or groups in various settings (e.g., hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, assemblies, field trips) to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

  • Reinforce classroom and school-wide rules and expectations.

  • Assist students with physical needs, including feeding, toileting, lifting, mobility, and medication administration, as necessary.

  • Assist in crisis intervention situations when necessary, under the direction of staff or administration.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications and Characteristics:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • A positive, student-centered, and solution-focused attitude towards education and students.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions as directed by supervisors.

  • Maintain professional communication and collaboration with students, staff, and families.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology and the ability to adapt to new tools or systems as needed.

  • Follow instructions accurately and communicate effectively in a professional setting.

  • Maintain prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.Consistently report to work and complete duties as scheduled.

  • A past record clear of criminial activity and child abuse or neglect.

Working Conditions:

 

The duties of this position are performed in a classroom environment.  Persons are required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch.  Additionally, persons may need to lift objects up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, and depth perception.  Noise levels in the working environments may be moderately loud or loud.  Occasionally, persons are required to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.  Persons are also required to maintain emotional composure under stress.
