JOB TITLE:  Preschool Teacher 

TYPE OF POSITION: Certified

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal and Preschool Lead Teacher

   $36,600-$54,900 per year                                                                                                                           

POSITION PURPOSE:  To teach elementary school pupils academic, social, and manipulative skills in public educational systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

1. The Teacher is responsible for providing excellent care and appropriately challenging educational experiences for the age group they are directly responsible for.

2. Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors, such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students.

3. Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.

4. Administers tests to evaluate pupil’s progress, record results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.

5. Discusses pupil’s academic and behavior problems with parents and suggests remedial action.

6. Maintain discipline in the classroom and in other school activities.

7. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.

8. Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, Teachers, Preschool Paraprofessionals, and Families toward providing preparation for a child’s entrance into Kindergarten.

9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education with two years of teaching experience in an exemplary early childhood setting.

Preferred Qualifications: BA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education with two years of teaching experience in an exemplary early childhood setting or K-6 elementary license with two years of teaching experience in Kindergarten or 1st Grade.

2. Ability to plan and organize

3. Skills in human relations.

4. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.

5. Able to implement State of Indiana Child Care Regulations, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.

6. Design and maintain a classroom and outdoor play environment that includes clearly defined, well organized activity areas which meet accreditation criteria

7. Organizing and arranging classroom to incorporate a variety of activities, soft elements, and personal space for each child

8. Ensure that classroom is child-centered by displaying posters, artwork, etc., at child’s eye level and offering a variety of materials and activities that are developmentally appropriate

9. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to fifty (50) pounds and to physically interact with children in a manner that meets their needs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

3. The employee should be able to use the following machines, tools, equipment, and work aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work:  pen, pencil, pointer, stylus, projector, public address system, tape recorder, blackboard, chalk, charts, diagrams, examinations, manuals, maps, publications, reference books, textbooks, and computers.

4. Pass physical exam including negative intradermal TB screen.

5. Pass a 5 panel drug screening.
