JOB TITLE: Director of Music

TYPE OF POSITION: Certified

REPORTS TO: High School Principal and Superintendent

                                                                                                                                            

POSITION PURPOSE:  Directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and music activities of the elementary, middle, and secondary school programs by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Evaluates educational program to ensure conformance to state and school board standards.

  • Coordinates music programs for school system in grades Kindergarten through 12.

  • Direct curriculum development in music.

  • Observe, evaluate, and direct all music facility and staff

  • Prepare and direct budgetary and funding activities for music programs

  • Direct public relations for music program activities.

  • Directs purchase and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

  • Directs and coordinates Performing Arts Center building use, scheduling, and rental.

  • Work directly with parent service organization.

  • Coordinate all extracurricular activities in music.

  • Prepare yearly calendar of all music related activities.

  • Manage recruiting program.

  • Meet and counsel with students and parents.

  • Direct marching band.

  • Conduct Wind Ensemble.

  • Conduct symphony orchestra.

  • Manage Social Media Platforms for communication and program updates. 

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Directly supervises music staff, classroom teachers, and support staff within the school music organization.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.

  • Ability to plan and organize.

  • Skills in human relations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.

  • Proven instructional leader.

  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
