REPORTS TO: Alternative Education Coordinator
Pay Range: $46,425-$80,500 In addition: 25 days beyond 183 contracted teacher days. This will be paid at the teacher's daily rate x 25 days. The teacher will work a total of 208 days.
POSITION PURPOSE: The Alternative Education Lead Teacher provides leadership, instruction, and program coordination to assure quality academic and behavioral experiences for students in need of additional support to have access to learn at high levels and be prepared for post-secondary success.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.Evaluates educational program to ensure conformance to state and school board standards.
- Coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teaching staff’s activities, and issuance of directives.
- Confers with teaching personnel, pupils, and parents on matters pertaining to educational and behavioral problems in school.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other schools to coordinate educational services.
- Oversees and provides day-to-day instruction with both online and offline coursework.
- Provides regular updates on progress to building leadership and school counselors of alternative education students.
- Stays abreast of current alternative education research, case law, and best practices as well as keeps relevant staff literate on such trends.
- Manages the alternative education referral process; arranges for or conducts student assessments; makes recommendations regarding placement and program management for individual students.
- Leads parent and student in-take conferences and transition conferences in alignment with the student’s ISP while communicating program expectations to parents and students.
- Serves as the main contact for business and community partners working with the program.
- Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed.
- Directs the preparation and implementation of interventions and supports as related to student learning, career advising, discipline, behavior, and attendance.
- Plans and monitors school budget.
- Supervises and supports the academic planning, career advising and behavioral needs of students.
- Establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
- Leads in staff development and performance evaluation of the certified and classified staff.
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Plans and supervises school and student activity programs before, during, and after-school.
- Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Completes all Alternative Education Program Grant applications, renewals and required reports.
- Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program, college-and-career readiness program, and work-based learning program.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises, classroom teachers, and support staff within the school organization. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
- Ability to plan and organize.
- Skills in human relations.
- Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
- Proven instructional leader.
- Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
