JOB TITLE:  Junior High School Language Arts Teacher

POSITION:  Certified

REPORTS TO:  Principal


POSITION PURPOSE:  Teach and equip students to think critically, read deeply, communicate and write effectively. Encourage students to practice what they have learned and assist them in accurately listening, speaking, writing and reading. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Instruct students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration, and uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop lesson plans and research different curriculum methods to implement that is coherent, purposeful and engaging.
  • Plan individual and group activities to use techniques such as dialogue, language games, literature, film, and other formal exercises.
  • Prepare teaching outline for course of study, assign lessons, and correct homework assignments.
  • Administer tests to evaluate student’s progress, record results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom and in other school activities.
  • Discuss student’s academic and behavior problems with parents and suggest remedial action.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Keep attendance and grade records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent teaching skills, interpersonal relations skills, time management and organizational skills
  • Must be compassionate, patient, observant, detail-oriented, creative and think outside the box.
  • Coach students individually or as a group; communicate with parents and other teachers about a student’s progress
  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
