JOB TITLE: Dean of Students (CIS)
TYPE OF POSITION: Certified 
REPORTS TO: Building Principal 

POSITION PURPOSE

Administers student personnel program and counsels students relative to educational and personal-social activities in secondary schools by performing the following tasks. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  • Organizes, implements and monitors Tier I discipline & student behavior system. Talks with and disciplines students in case of attendance and behavior problems. Communicates behavior concerns with families.
  • Plans and supervises school, social, and recreational programs. 
  • Serves as Cafeteria and Recess coordinator. 
  • Files due process referrals and serves on hearings. 
  • Supervises students in attendance at assemblies and athletic events. 
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance and discipline administered.
  • Is responsible for communicating attendance concerns to families and district attendance officer. 
  • Renders individual and group guidance relative to personal problems, educational and vocational objectives, and social and recreational activities.
  • Inventories, distributes, and coordinates textbook rental activities on an annual basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting the principal in the oversight of the student body. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate teacher certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. 
  • Ability to plan and organize; good work habits. 
  • Skills in human relations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. 
  • Proven instructional leader. 
  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
