POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Young Adult Program Teacher of Record
TYPE OF POSITION: Certified
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and Building Principal(s)
Primary Function:
Provides instruction, case management, and transition services for students ages 18-22 participating in the district’s Young Adult Program. This position ensures students receive instruction and support aligned with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), while fostering independence, employability, and community participation.

Essential Duties:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Serve as the Teacher of Record for assigned students in the Young Adult Program, ensuring compliance with Article 7, IDEA, and transition-related requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that emphasize functional academics, vocational skills, daily living skills, and community-based instruction.
- Provide differentiated instruction that prepares students for independent living, employment, and continued education or training opportunities.
- Collaborate with transition coordinators, related service providers, job coaches, families, and community resources to support individual transition planning.
- Supervise and facilitate student participation in community-based vocational life-skills activities.
- Provide ongoing progress monitoring and maintain documentation required for IEP implementation and compliance.
- Train and support professionals assigned to the program in effective instructional and behavioral support strategies.
- Ensure safe student transportation and supervision of community-based settings.
- Participate in and lead case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Maintain knowledge of transition resources, post-secondary opportunities, and best practices in supporting students with disabilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education with a focus area serving students with severe disabilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, Article 7, IEP development, instructional design, and behavior-support frameworks.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- CPR/AED certification and completion of required state training.

- Ability to move about school buildings and occasionally lifting and transferring 50 pounds or slightly more.
- Sufficient vision, hearing, and speech to conduct assessments and communicate effectively.
- Frequent use of hands for typing, writing, and test administration.
- Work is primarily in a school setting with moderate noise; some travel between schools may be required.
