JOB TITLE: College and Career Advisor

TYPE OF POSITION: Professional 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and the Director of Student Engagement


POSITION PURPOSE:  Provide comprehensive college and career advising services so that every student is prepared to make informed decisions about postsecondary education, training, or career opportunities. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual will assist the counseling department in these essential functions. 

  1. Develop and support individual student college and career pathways in alignment with their postsecondary goals.

  2. Conducts annual parent meetings between students and families in order to regularly revisit student goals, educate students and parents on pathway requirements and options, monitor on-track status, and build partnerships with parents/guardians who are at the front line of advising students.

  3. Collects, organizes, and analyzes information and data about individual students through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics in order to best support student goal setting.

  4. Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and local labor market trends to meet vocational and educational objectives.

  5. Assists students in identifying, developing, and mastering dispositions of Concord’s Portrait of a Graduate.

  6. Works with school counselors in collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement. 

  7. Collaborates with community agencies, other schools and school systems, and parents and teachers to facilitate student growth.

  8. Assist counselors with programming to provide access to job fairs, college fairs, and other forums that develop college and career development opportunities.

  9. Provide informed recommendations to district leadership for college and career pathways based on student interests, local labor market trends, and state education guidelines.

  10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Willingness to learn Indiana high school graduation pathways and requirements.

  3. Skills in human relations.

  4. Ability to gather and utilize data to make informed decisions.

  5. Ability to communicate effectively in individual, small group, and large group settings.

  1. Ability to plan and organize; good work habits.

  2. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, counselors, and school staff.

  3. Other qualifications that the School Board may require.
