Position Type: Temporary / Clinical Experience (per university placement)


Position Summary

The Student Teacher is a pre-service educator completing a supervised clinical experience as part of an approved teacher preparation program. Under the guidance of a licensed cooperating teacher, the Student Teacher gradually assumes instructional and classroom responsibilities while developing effective teaching practices aligned to district curriculum, instructional expectations, and professional standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observe, assist, and progressively lead classroom instruction in alignment with district curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Plan and deliver lessons under the supervision of the cooperating teacher.
  • Support student learning through small-group instruction, differentiation, and classroom engagement strategies.
  • Assist with assessing student learning and reflecting on instructional effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Follow all school and district policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, academic performance, and personal information.
  • Communicate professionally with the cooperating teacher, building staff, and university supervisor.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and school activities as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, preparedness, and openness to feedback.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Successful completion of required coursework and university prerequisites for student teaching.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn and grow professionally.
  • Completion of required background checks and district onboarding requirements.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school building.
  • Ability to engage actively with students in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Supervision and Evaluation

The Student Teacher works under the direct supervision of a licensed cooperating teacher and is evaluated in collaboration with the university supervisor in accordance with program requirements.

Compensation

This is an unpaid educational placement. Student Teachers are not considered employees of the district and are not eligible for wages or employee benefits.
